Quasi-Conspiracy Theory Of The Day.

The word bureaucracy is tough to spell. It is French in origin and runs against the grain of English spelling patterns. However, most automatic spell checkers do not offer “bureaucracy” as an alternative to miss-spelled versions of the word.

For instance, in Microsoft Word, “bureacracy” did return bureaucracy as a suggested fix, but “burocracy” and “beauracracy” did not.

In a pinch, or in a hurry, many users of programs like Microsoft Word or WordPress or Blogger.Com may just skip using the word when they realize they have miss-spelled it but can not get a good suggestion to fix it. (Obviously this is indicative of an ever increasing culture of lazy, but that is a different discussion for a different day.)

The term bureaucracy is also very rarely used in anything but a negative way. (The exception being history students writing about the actual, original French bureaucracy.) Usually the word is used to criticize big government. Are the liberals at Google and Microsoft trying to censor us?
