This Day In New York Times History.

On April 23, 2000 the New York Times jumped on to the dot-com craze bandwagon by reporting about a massive increase in web companies leasing office space in Manhattan. By itself, this is not really noteworthy, but in typical New York Times fashion they took things a step too far and boldly proclaimed a new real estate order:

The report is an indication of how quickly new-economy companies, which include those involved in e-commerce, new media, network infrastructure, Web technology and software development, have gone from obscurity to become a major factor in the city's real estate market. http://www.nytimes.com/2000/04/23/realestate/commercial-property-manhattan-office-space-dot-coms-accounted-for-25-first.html?scp=20&sq=&st=nyt
